Summary:Exhibition of Divestment Quilts created by University alumni, Sue Lacey and University students and staff.
On 16 October 2020, the University of Tasmania marked the occasion of divesting of companies with fossil fuel exposure in its investment strategy and positively screen for those investments that support the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
This is a significant milestone in our sustainability journey.
The University acknowledges and deeply appreciates the collective knowledge, wisdom and effort of our students, staff and community that led to this decision.
In 2021 a project to commemorate this decision resulted in the creation of the Divestment Quilts. Created by University alumni, Sue Lacey, and made with repurposed materials, the quilts are illustrated with reflections and messages of support collected from our community across all campuses.
“The finite qualities of islands remind us that ecologically and socially we need to be a sustainable place; we must work with ecosystems, not against them, and the definition of a community provided by our island’s watery boundaries reminds us that we must work together”.
