Sustainable Healthcare Research & Advancement Group (incl Dental Public Health)
This research group, originally established in dental public health, has expanded to include a multidisciplinary group of healthcare professionals and researchers here at the University of Tasmania, nationally and internationally. We are dedicated to advancing access, equity, affordability, and quality throughout the healthcare system, with a particular emphasis on services often overlooked, such as dental and oral health and medical eduation. We also embrace systems thinking, as we strive to understand and address the intricate interdependencies within healthcare systems to foster sustainable advancement and education.
Aligned with the World Health Organization's vision, we strive for a sustainable healthcare system—"one that not only improves, maintain and restore health but also minimises negative environmental impacts and leverages opportunities for environmental restoration for current and future generations”. By enhancing efficiency, we contribute significantly to achieving the carbon reductions outlined in the UN Sustainable Development Goals, and Australia’s first National Health and Climate Strategy embodying a broader commitment to social and environmental responsibility among health professionals.
Across all healthcare sectors, our approach is characterised by placemaking, collaboration, and co-design. Our current projects prioritise disease prevention and the enhancement of population health, especially within regional communities and among at-risk groups and populations.
Over the past decade, we have embraced a diverse range of activities, ranging from health surveillance and policy development to community-based disease prevention, health promotion, and the enhancement of oral health services and delivery in Tasmania, including Australian states, Timor Leste and Papua New Guinea. We are steadfast in our commitment to fostering the sustainability of oral health services as they progress.
We foster partnerships with local industry stakeholders, professional organisations, and both national and international communities to drive impactful change.
