Rural Health Research Program

Our research effort aligns with the Rural Health Research Plan that sets the direction for the College of Health and Medicine to improve the health and well-being of Aboriginal people(s), and people living in rural and remote regions of Tasmania by drawing on our disciplinary and interdisciplinary strengths to tackle complex health challenges.

The 2024 Rural Health Research Plan aims to facilitate a step-change in the impact of our work on rural health in Tasmania:

  • A shift from describing the problem of rural health workforce capability and retention, to implementation and evaluation of evidence-based interventions to address the challenge.
  • Raising the profile of Aboriginal Health (by mob) as everyone’s business, and prioritising resources accordingly.
  • Alignment for impact; ensuring that activities are aligned to areas of need for Tasmanian rural communities and the College’s areas of critical research mass, to shift the dial on health outcomes.
