Our Human Dimensions team connects all the dots in fisheries and aquaculture through cutting-edge modelling, economic, governance, and sociological methods. We focus on the social and economic indicators for Tasmania’s fisheries and aquaculture, community wellbeing, social acceptability, and effective governance.
Our research supports the SMRCA goal of sustainability of marine resources by understanding the ways people, markets and institutions interact with marine resources and the ecological system itself.
Our Human Dimensions’ Modelling and Mapping and Sociology and Economics team leads research in marine social sciences, economics and political studies and supports other IMAS teams in their projects
The Human Dimensions and Modelling Program provides quantitative, social science and economic perspectives across the broad range of Fisheries and Aquaculture projects. The work spans from improving our understanding of population dynamics through to providing clear scientific advice to support decision making by stakeholders and managers.
